Mont Saint Michel

Holy shit was today cool. We went to Mont Saint Michel, which is basically the coolest fortified castle ever. I spent a great deal of my childhood dreaming up the most awesome castles my imagination could supply me with. I'd draw blueprints on graph paper, sketch tower designs, and invent cool new siege engines. When the Lord of the Rings came out, I thought that my dreams had been realized as completely as they could possibly be -- oh how wrong I was! Mont Saint Michel already exists, and is better than anything Peter Jackson could ever dream up. I mean utilizing the tides to provide extra safety? You've got a moat? Mont Saint Michel has the friggin ocean, bitch! Look, read, and learn:

I'm so happy you got to visit my ancentral home, Sam. I built that place during one of my past lifetimes, and it was quite the cozy place to run my pirate business from for many years. You can stop by and stay anytime you like, thanks for the visit!

Apparently, Mont Saint Michel was the inspiration behind Minas Tirith in the Lord of the Rings. They are shockingly similar.
